GM to build electric motors

General Motors is to build its own electric motors for hybrid and electric vehicles.

The company said it wants in-house production from 2013 to lower costs and improve quality and reliability. GM is planning an investment of around $240 million and its Baltimore transmission plant at White Marsh, Maryland, is likely to be the manufacturing site.
