Harbec Plastics offers extended DMLS manufacture

28 January 2010

Harbec Plastics, Inc, based in Ontario, NY, US, has upgraded its direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) machine to run stainless steel, cobalt chrome, maraging steel, directmetal20 and titanium.

"DMLS will enable Harbec not only to prototype, but also be able to grow mould cavities that will allow us to meet our customers ever shortening lead times." says Harbec general manager, Jack Schultz.

The company says that it is continuously researching opportunities to advance its technological capabilities and to reduce the environmental footprint. Recently, innovative methods of manufacturing metal parts were explored for implementation and direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) was chosen as a viable option based on its accuracy, speed and ability to create geometries not possible with conventional machining.
