China trader buys into Canadian nickel

China’s largest nickel trader is taking a 15% stake in Royal Nickel Corp, a small mining outfit led by former Inco executives including ex-CEO Scott Hand.

The deal highlights China’s growing interest in Canada’s nickel ore deposits. Ningbo Sunhu Chemical Products is investing $21.8 million in the company, which is developing the $1 billion Dumont nickel project in the Val d’Or region of Quebec.
