GKN Sinter to axe four US and
UK plants
GKN Sinter Metals is to close three plants in the United States
and one in the UK this year in an attempt to consolidate in
the face of worsening business conditions. The move will affect
nearly 300 jobs - approximately 10 per cent of the company's
US workforce. Adding in the 175 job losses in the UK, the
number of jobs affected represents around 7 per cent of the
company's world wide workforce of about 6500 employees...
Ecka takes BSA in fire sale move
to extend range
Non-ferrous powder maker Ecka Granules based in Essen, Germany,
has acquired the Birmingham, UK, powder operation of BSA Metal
Powders in abankruptcy sale completed in the closing days
of December, 2005. The move has come as a great relief for
the 30 employees whose future had been in the balance for
three months...
Delphi puts the $1bn bang in
bankrupt
Chapter 11 auto parts supplier Delphi Corporation disclosed
last month that it lost more than $1.1 billion in December.
Delphi, a former General Motors (GM) subsidiary that filed
for bankruptcy in early October, is required to file monthly
financial reports with the US Bankruptcy Court...

CANADIAN nickel major Inco established new all-time records
for total annual revenue, net earnings, and average annual
realised price for nickel in 2005. The company's net earnings
for 2005 in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting
principles were $836 million, compared with $619 million for
2004, a rise of 35 per cent...

Press sales up 31% as Dieffenbacher
seeks better 2006
German press builder Dieffenbacher's overall 2005 sales rose
by more than 31 per cent compared to the previous year, to
e232 million.
Paradigm shifted as Falcon swoops
Falcon Diversified Manufacturing, Inc., has purchased the
company and assets of PM parts maker Paradigm Sintered Products,
of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Hawk record
Hawk Corporation based in Cleveland, Ohio announced record
2005 sales of $265.4 million and income of $15.4 million,
a 19.4 percent decrease from 2004.
Strategic alliance for ferroalloy
powders
Hascor International Group of Tampico, Mexico, and Shieldalloy
Metallurgical Corp.of Newfield, New Jersey, have formed an
alliance to supply ferroalloy powders for the wear plate,
welding electrode, and PM markets in the United States and
Canada.
ISO for NSA
National Sintered Alloys of Clinton, Connecticut, has earned
ISO 9001:2000 certification from the SRI Quality System Registrar,
based in Wexford, Pennsylvania.
Ecka grows in China and Brazil
Bavarian-based Ecka Granules signalled new developments in
China and Brazil with a joint venture in China to produce
copper powders and a strategically placed new office in Sao
Paulo.
Miba figures up in tight year
Austrian PM parts maker Miba AG, based in Laakirchen reported
fiscal year 2005/2006 sales of e347 million, a 6 per cent
increase over the previous fiscal year.
Höganäs takes SEK65m
tax hit in Brazil
Höganäs has been hit with a tax bill equivalent
to SEK 16 million in Brazil over the import of machinery and
expects to receive further claims from the government that
are expected to total nearly SEK 50 million more.
