PSI atomiser brings laser Doppler technology to bear
PSI have delivered their new, improved pilot-scale vacuum/inert gas atomiser system to a major European powder producer.
Incorporating PSI’s gas superheating technology and enhanced vacuum technology, the atomiser is capable of producing finer powders whilst minimising oxygen pickup.

PSI’s human-machine interface and video system enables precise operator control and monitoring of the entire atomisation process from a central console whilst laser Doppler anemometry studies the rapidly solidifying atomisation plume to enable optimisation of process parameters for up-scaled production atomiser systems.

Multiple analysers monitor oxygen in key areas around the atomiser plant, ensuring both process quality and safety. PSI’s novel powder classifier-glove box ensures that powders are “cut” to user-selectable size fractions in an inert and dry environment. Recognising the importance of the rapidly expanding titanium powder metallurgy market, the client invested in additional facilities on the atomiser to enable an economic upgrade to cold wall crucible clean melting atomisation in the near future.

All Hermiga atomisers are designed, manufactured and tested in PSI’s factory in the UK prior to installation, commissioning and training by experienced PSI engineers.
