Phoenix Scientific Industries has based the new system on its widely adopted Hermiga close-coupled gas atomisation technology.
The plant has the capability to produce in excess of 500 tonnes per annum of pyrotechnic or industrial grade magnesium powder. An intelligent management system re-circulates argon gas facilitating a significant reduction in the consumption of this expensive material component, enabling operating costs to be reduced.
Safe operation of a potentially volatile reactive metal atomisation process is maintained via controlled mixing of gases for metal passivation. Cooling systems throughout the plant maintain heat balances within safe operating parameters. As operator safety is paramount, control and data acquisition with the atomiser is focussed at a Computer/PLC-based centralised console that is safely sited remotely from the atomiser production area.
The PSI continuous atomisation plant enables high grade, lightweight and reactive metal powders to be manufactured on a lower cost basis than similar batch systems. www.psiltd.co.uk
