banks $1bn as record earnings rocket 35 per centCANADIAN nickel major Inco established new all-time records for total annual revenue, net earnings, and average annual realised price for nickel in 2005. The company's net earnings for 2005 in accordance with Canadian generally accepted accounting principles were $836 million, compared with $619 million for 2004, a rise of 35 per cent.

Sinter to axe four US and UK plantsGKN Sinter Metals is to close three plants in the United States and one in the UK this year in an attempt to consolidate in the face of worsening business conditions. The move will affect nearly 300 jobs - approximately 10 per cent of the company's US workforce. Adding in the 175 job losses in the UK, the number of jobs affected represents around 7 per cent of the company's world wide workforce of about 6500 employees.

The move has come as a great relief for the 30 employees whose future had been in the balance for three months.

puts the $1bn bang in bankruptChapter 11 auto parts supplier Delphi Corporation disclosed last month that it lost more than $1.1 billion in December. Delphi, a former General Motors (GM) subsidiary that filed for bankruptcy in early October, is required to file monthly financial reports with the US Bankruptcy Court.
