ALD bags Chinese atomiser contract

ALD Vacuum Technologies GmbH successfully completed pre-acceptance trials for a Chinese customer of a VIGA35 - vacuum induction-melting inert gas atomiser - at their premises in Hanau, Germany.

The atomiser is a highly automated production plant, designed and built for a batch size of 250kg of special steel. The flexible set-up of the plant and the redundant tundish system allow a tap-to-tap time of less than four hours for melting under vacuum. Pre-acceptance of the completely pre-assembled plant at ALD included the usual cold and hot tests as well as the demonstration of the specified fine powder yield under production conditions.

The Chinese customer, a specialty materials manufacturer, will start production of inert gas atomised powders at begin 2006. The VIGA35 plant is a repeat order for this customer who is already operating an ALD VIDP (vacuum induction-melt degassing and pouring) unit in their special steel plant.

ALD is a leading supplier of process technologies and services in the field of vacuum metallurgy and vacuum heat treatment. With subsidiaries in the USA, Japan and the UK, ALD deals with a number of industries and has an installed base of more than 40 atomiser plants world wide.
