US - Italy link aims for new thinking on injection moulding

A US-Italian industrial link could soon cut the cost of setting up in metal injection moulding by introducing machines that can handle a variety of media.

Mathson Industries, a Troy, Michigan, company providing design, engineering and manufacture of plastics, elastomers, ceramics and metal injection moulded components and systems has joined forces with Negri Bossi to develop advanced injection moulding machines.

Negri Bossi - SACMI Group is a $1.4 billion dollar global supplier of plastic processing equipment. The two companies are working together for the development of plastic, ceramic, metal processing injection moulding machines. The V270-1450 (300 US tons) is currently being developed at Negri Bossi's Milan, Italy plant. This machine will be installed at Mathson Industries facility in Troy, Michigan in September 2005.

"By combining Negri Bossi's Advanced Injection moulding machine technology and Mathson's plastics, metal, ceramics injection moulding system technology we can better develop cost-effective advanced products for our customers," said Boney Mathew, CEO of Mathson Industries. "Mathson will work closely with Negri Bossi to promote the integration of these various materials into advanced injection moulding machines which can process all these materials in one machine". This allows us to eliminate the need of multiple machines for various materials and consequently to reduce capital investment.

"The market for sophisticated systems is expanding rapidly and we are
challenged by vehicle manufacturers, biomedical manufacturers to incorporate multiple functions, materials and components in their systems.

"Mathson's leadership position in automotive and biomedical systems provides us with the opportunity to collaborate in developing the solutions to meet this challenge," said Liam Burns, general manager of Negri Bossi. "Our relationship with Mathson can significantly advance the acceptance of new methods of integration and will benefit Negri Bossi's development efforts."
"Mathson and Negri Bossi are both committed to providing our customers with cutting edge technology, and quality products through our proven systems.” said Boney Mathew. “We anticipate a tremendous future for both companies".
