Question:
I understand diamond tools for cutting different type of stones can also be produced through MIM process ?
Answer:
Diamond tools are composite materials where the diamonds are embedded in a soft matrix, which for saws and cutters is typically bronze. Of course the diamond has to be treated so that the matrix can bond with the diamond. The conventional method of producing these cutting tools is the press and sinter route. I am unaware of anyone making MIMed diamond tools, but if the shape complexity demands MIM processing, it is a question of obtaining the correct sized powders and overcoming the wear challenges arising from the abrasive diamond powder.
