Question:

I am doing research on MIM. I would like to ask you regarding the cost of setting up a small MIM facility in a developing country like India.
Roughly, how much does a MIM machine cost along with a sintering furnace and a batch mixer?
Thank You.

Answer:

This is a loaded question and the answer depends on a number of factors such as a definition of “small”, the type/applications for the parts, the materials to be used and the mixture of parts and materials to be sintered and the quality of the parts you make.
In general, I like to say that you will need $1.5 million in capital expenses out of which the sintering furnace would be the largest single ticket expense and another $1.5 million in working capital plus the cost of mistakes in learning how to make MIM parts. Should you decide to hire a MIM consultant such as DSH Technologies, www.dshtech.com http://www.dshtech.com , you will pay some extra money up front, but save money on your mistakes by up to around $500,000.
